Pointer Gestures
WCAG Requirement
All multipoint or path-based gestures can be operated with a single pointer without path-based gesture, unless essential.
Experience Builder Notes
Map pinch-to-zoom must have button alternatives (+/- buttons). EB provides these by default.
Map & GIS Considerations
Maps are gesture-heavy interfaces — pinch-to-zoom, two-finger pan, double-tap zoom, and swipe navigation are all multipoint or path-based gestures that require single-pointer alternatives. EB provides +/- zoom buttons by default, but verify they are present and not hidden by theme customization. Touch targets for these buttons must be at least 44x44 CSS pixels for mobile usability. Also verify that the home/extent button is available as an alternative to gesture-based extent changes.
Sufficient Techniques
- ✓Provide single-pointer alternatives for gestures
- ✓Ensure +/- zoom buttons are present as alternative to pinch-to-zoom
- ✓Provide a home/extent button as alternative to double-tap zoom
Common Failures in EB Apps
- ✗Map gestures without button alternatives
- ✗Pinch-to-zoom with no +/- button controls
- ✗Swipe-to-pan with no alternative navigation method
